One of rock’s most touring bands collaborates in the studio with rock’s most notable players!

vs. the earth is headed back to the studio with a new line-up of rock veterans. The band has already accomplished financial success as one of rock n’ roll’s highest paid, but unsigned, touring bands. Now, the band is headed to Tommy Lee’s (Motley Crue) studio, The Atrium, in Los Angeles to collaborate with some of rock’s most flourishing musicians.

Inland Water Service Project Supported By Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association!

The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association (BWNVA) Is Fighting To Help Identify Ships Within the Geographical Boundaries of Vietnam.

The Department of Veterans Affairs recently added forty-five ocean-going vessels, assumed to have been exposed to Agent Orange, to a growing list of Navy and Coast Guard ships. The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association (BWNVA) is helping the Veterans Administration (VA) identify ships that entered the rivers and canals within the geographical boundaries of Vietnam. The BWNVA’s goal is to help over 200,000 Veterans, who were exposed to Agent Orange while serving in Vietnam without having boots on the ground service, obtain benefits. Through their continued efforts with the Inland Water Service Project, The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association wants to help those who served this country and have fallen ill as a result.

The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association (BWNVA) is fighting to get legislation passed to restore medical benefits to Navy, Coast Guard and Fleet Marines who are suffering and dying from diseases and disabilities associated with Agent Orange herbicide use during the Vietnam War. Right now there is a Bill in the Senate, S-1629 (AOEA), and in the House, HR-3612, seeking to help Navy service members who were subjected to Agent Orange gain medical benefits. In the meantime, The BWNVA has found an alternative way to actively advocate for Veterans. By identifying the ships that entered rivers and canals within the geographical boundaries of Vietnam, BWNVA can help Veterans automatically qualify for the medical benefits they should be rightfully entitled to.

“These men are all my Shipmates. They are getting screwed but not kissed. I feel a duty and a responsibility to help them. And I’ll do that in any way I can. If we have to get these men their benefits one at a time, then that’s the way we’ll do it.” Says John Rossie, Executive Director of The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association “Our non-profit organization has assisted the submission of over 120 ships to the Inland Water Service Project. 70 of our submissions have been approved via the January 2012 VA List of eligible ships.”

According to VA.gov/Agent Orange, the U.S. military sprayed an estimated twenty million gallons of herbicides in Vietnam to remove jungle foliage. Agent Orange is a toxic chemical with strong links to several forms of cancer and numerous disabling diseases. Rossie believes “more than half” of Blue Water Navy Sailors have died as a result of Agent Orange exposure.

The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association has been helping Veterans obtain benefits that were previously denied. The Agent Orange Equity Act of 2011 (AOEA) Should Help Blue Water Navy Vets, But One Veteran Advocacy Group Notes Examples Of Benefits Denied.

The Agent Orange Equity Act of 2011 (S-1629) was introduced by Senators hoping to restore VA benefits to the approximate 250,000 Navy veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange while serving in the Vietnam War. The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association has been helping Veterans obtain benefits that were previously denied. John Rossie, Executive Director of The Blue Water Navy Association, has been diligently working to help any veteran obtain benefits. Rossie has also been dedicating time to a public awareness campaign, designed to inform citizens of the new legislation in both the Senate and the House.

“Our Association has helped hundreds of vets overcome unnecessary benefit denials because the Compensation Division of the VA is overwhelmed by claims, red tape and poorly trained workers.” said Rossie. “I’m hoping we can get public support and media attention for the AOEA. Our Veterans shouldn’t have to continue to fight for what they have already earned by their sacrifices almost 40 years ago.”

Rossie is helping to spearhead an awareness campaign along with other organizations who hope to join forces and bring attention to the Agent Orange issue. Rossie says he has seen too many cases where veterans have suffered as a result of Agent Orange caused diseases. In many cases the veterans are losing everything while trying to pay for their own medical care. “The VA has not done its job of notifying and educating Vietnam War veterans about the dangers they face because of dioxin poisoning. By the time the veterans get ahold of us, they can literally be on their death beds.”

EarlyShares.com, a prominent new crowdfunding website, wants the U.S. Government to realize what crowd funding has done for UK and mirror it.

EarlyShares.com is quickly becoming known as the go-to platform for crowdfunding. The shocking truth is that crowd funding isn’t legal, as of yet, in the U.S., despite the website’s continued growth in popularity. Crowdfunding is a new way for entrepreneurs, start-up businesses and existing small companies to obtain capital. The challenge surrounding crowd funding websites, like EarlyShares.com, is the inability to showcase promising new companies to investors. As an added frustration the new companies can only offer non-equity perks for donations, opposed to extending equity (ownership) to the investors.

Within the last month several global publishers have reported crowdfunding is close to a two billion dollar industry, in 2012 alone. Resource Investing News, Oregon Live and Fresh Business Thinking (UK) are just some of the many news outlets projecting crowdfunding can potentially generate over five billion dollars in the upcoming year. However, current securities law in the U.S. prevent crowdfunding platforms or companies from offering shares in any company. Many politicians have unfairly associated crowdfunding as a gateway to fraud”. As politicians continue to debate the issue, the UK keeps moving forward. The irony of all this unnecessary controversy is anyone in the U.S. can DONATE money through crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter, but the people are not allowed to receive a monetary reward back. The UK has allowed shareholding through crowdfunding platforms and their business is booming (without fraud)!

With the 99% movement bringing issues of alleged fraud on wall street, main street, and saturated throughout the U.S., it has become apparent the investor has a right to be extra cautious- especially when it comes to innovative concepts when applied to raising capital. The premise of crowdfunding through social media networking affords everyone involved a transparent medium. Entrepreneurs are required to promote and sell their company to hundreds ( or thousands) of small investors (each investing an average of one to three hundred dollars) and with hundreds to thousands of people socially connected there is no room for possible back room deals or “fraud”. Today’s social media culture offers American investors a chance to back a business. The premise that the American people are unsophisticated investors, and they can be easily defrauded by crowdfunding schemes, isn’t a reality for such a progressive country.

EarlyShares.com CEO Maurice Lopes feels the same way. “Look at Crowdcube in the UK. It is basically the same thing we have built for the U.S. Crowdcube has been live for about four months now, and they have already raised over $2.5M for six companies from hundreds, if not thousands, of small investors. The company even funded its own expansion of close to five hundred thousand dollars, using their own platform. Crowdcube is helping many UK start-up businesses get off the ground. Imagine how many new businesses, and new jobs, could be created if the U.S. followed suit.”

Currently there are three crowdfunding bills in the Senate. The first, and most instrumental, is H.R. 2930 which has been introduced by Congressman McHenry (NC). This bill passed the house with a landslide bipartisan victory of 407-17; the second bill S.1971 by Senator Scott Brown (MA) and the last bill introduced was S.1970 by Senator Jeff Merkley (OR). None of the bills cost taxpayers s money since the bills are not proposals for government stimulus, but rather updates and modifications to antiquated SEC securities law restrictions (ie: increasing the number of shareholders for private company from 500 to unlimited, companies seeking less than $2M in a 12 month period be exempt from costly SEC legal fillings, reduction of red-tape or exemption from securities registration).

These bills have a great deal of potential to better the economy in the U.S., and these bills should have significantly more attention within the mainstream media and business trade publications. However, the bills seemed to be stalled by the Senate Banking Committee’s Chairman, Senator Tim Johnson (SD). Mr. Johnson’s opening remarks “Our nation is facing an unemployment crisis. Nearly fourteen million Americans are unable to find a job, and over five million have been unemployed for six months or longer. Here in Congress, putting our fellow Americans back to work should be, and must be, our top priority." Seem to have the same spirit intended by crowdfunding websites, like EarlyShares.com. The question remains, why haven’t these bills passed yet?

“The benefits of crowd funding are endless.” Lopes continued. “This is the change the country needs. People don’t want useless government bailouts; almost all previous government stimulus packages never reaches the little guy starting a company. Let’s face it, the doors for opportunity are all closed for most entrepreneurs; more uncollateralized bank loans, no more easily available business credit cards, no HELOC’s; and banks aren’t even lending on SBA loans unless it’s for real-estate. Crowdfunding is working well in the UK. It is time for the U.S. to enjoy the same success.”

The problem with these wires is overcrowding. Anyone, publicist or not, can place a release on the wire and the release HAS to be fed to journalists and make its way around the Internet. Journalists are moving away from these wires and preferring to subscribe directly to the media rooms of their associated publicity firms. In addition, journalists prefer email pitches from known sources, not cold calls or blind emails.

Vietnam Vets Exposed To Agent Orange Need Public Support To Gain Health Benefits

Navy vets who were exposed to Agent Orange could win back VA benefits with the public’s support according to The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association.

The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association (http://www.bluewaternavy.org) is seeking the public’s help. This past September Senators Gillibrand and Graham introduced the Agent Orange Equity Act of 2011 (AOEA). The bill was presented to restore VA benefits to approximately 250,000 Navy veterans who have been exposed to Agent Orange while serving in the Vietnam War. Currently, Navy veterans who served in Vietnam are unable to receive disability or health benefits for medical issues related to the effects of Agent Orange because of a technicality stemming from 2002.

Right now there is a Bill in the Senate, S-1629 (AOEA), and in the House, HR-3612, seeking to help Navy service members effected by Agent Orange gain benefits. However, the public’s support is needed. According to Cancer.org, and even VA.gov/AgentOrange, the U.S. military sprayed an estimated twenty million gallons of herbicides in Vietnam to remove jungle foliage. Agent Orange is a toxic chemical with devastating effects and strong links to several forms of cancer and numerous neurological diseases.

Initially congress passed a law that required the VA to provide coverage to all Vietnam veterans who had illnesses directly related to Agent Orange exposure. In 2002 the VA, in what the The Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Association alleges as “possible selective discrimination”, decided to provide the health care and disability benefits only to “boots on the ground” service members. The Navy has been excluded ever since. Agent Orange has been verified, through various studies and reports, as a wide spreading chemical that was able to reach Navy ships through the air and waterborne distribution routes.

“The bill presented by Senators Gillibrand and Graham would elucidate the existing laws. Blue Water veterans would be able to receive full coverage from the VA if they served twelve miles off of the Vietnam shore,” says John Rossie, Executive Director of The Blue Water Navy Association. “The problem is bills, like AOEA, have gone before congress before. It is crucially important that we have the public's support on this matter. It can literally mean the difference between life and death. Writing a letter, or making a call, to a member of congress to urge the passing of AOEA provides our veterans with the support they need to overturn this technicality and improve their quality of life. We need to provide the benefits due to those who became ill as a result of their service."

Over thirty Veterans Service Organizations support the Agent Orange Equity Act of 2011 (AOEA). By not passing AOEA, a precedence could be set to selectively provide certain groups with injury related medical care while denying other groups without any financial, scientific or consistent reasoning. The Blue Water Navy Veterans Association has set up a website, http://bluewaternavy.org/, with downloadable letter templates, a documentation library, news of the day corner, editorial and opinions tab, and a specific F.A.Q. section to AOEA- otherwise known as S-1629 and HR-3612.

Members of the public are asked to show their support for service members by contacting their representatives about the issue at hand. Allure of Big Island of Hawaii touted to sun-starved Calgarians

Paradise - or at least parts of it - is on sale.
Although not as high profile as places such as Las Vegas or Phoenix, real estate prices in parts of Hawaii have been pummelled almost as badly as the mainland U.S.
While that's bad news for American sellers, that's good news for anyone interested in buying - such as frostbitten Calgarians.
As part of a recent three-city show-and-tell tour, experts spent a day in Calgary touting the allure of Hawaii, focusing on winter escapes along the Gold Coast of the Big Island.
"It's been a tougher market for the past couple of years, but we are seeing more Canadians visiting with the intent to purchase," says Dodie MacArthur, broker/owner of MacArthur and Co. Sotheby's International Realty.
She was joined on the tour by Rebecca Keliihoomalu, a top realtor with the Kamuela, Hawaii company.
Because of the strength of the Canadian dollar and economy, snowbirds are taking advantage of reduced prices to get into home ownership.
The Gold Coast of the Big Island is a favourite area for resort property investment, says Keliihoomalu. "That's an area where Canadians tend to gravitate."
MacArthur and Keliihoomalu aim to educate Canadians on the many opportunities that come with being a full or part-time resident of Hawaii.
Working with Sotheby's International Realty Canada offices, they are presenting a diverse selection of properties from all over the Big Island, including those at island resorts such as Mauna Kea, Mauna Lani, Waikoloa and Hualalai.
"I'm excited to have our company interact with our Canadian neighbours," says MacArthur, adding that she wants potential snowbirds to have an opportunity to meet Sotheby's agents face to face, ask questions and learn about Hawaii's real estate opportunities.
"Thanks to the current economic conditions in the United States, the Canadian dollar can buy more, and those same conditions have created an opportunity to buy the property they want - not just to get their foot in the door," says MacArthur.
In her opinion, the Big Island has some of the best value opportunities in Hawaii.
Depending on the resort, the style of housing and the location on the property, residences are being discounted anywhere from 25 per cent at KaMilo at Mauna Lani to more than 60 per cent at Waikoloa Beach Resort, she says.
For example, a property at Mauna Kea Resort sold in 2006 for $2.35 million US. That same property is currently listed for $1.35 million.
At the Waikoloa Beach Resort, a property in the Fairway Villa section of the development was purchased in 2006 for $695,000.
Earlier this year, it was listed for sale at $309,900, but sold for $260,000.
"Prices are starting to creep back," says Keliihoomalu. "Tourism dropped dramatically in 2008, along with the economy, so now we have a strong inventory and great prices."
A Calgary businessman named Maurice (who doesn't want his full identity revealed) went in with other family members to buy a condo on the Big Island at Waikoloa Beach Resort.
"Condos there are going for less than half what they did between 2005 and 2007 - and substantially less than on Maui or Oahu," he says.
They purchased a twobedroom, 1,172-square-foot home in the Fairway Villas section of the resort for about $260,000. The plan is to use it as a rental property for now and as a retirement destination in the future.
Deborah Kurtz, a realtor with Sotheby's International Realty Canada in Calgary, works with Canadians looking to buy or sell properties in Hawaii.
The islands are continuing to draw potential homebuyers, she says.
"It's still attracting Calgarians looking for retirement, or second or third homes, or for just a getaway place," says Kurtz, adding that prices can run from as low as $70,000 for an apartment condo up into the millions of dollars for estate homes.
"It's my role to work with clients here, narrow down what they are looking for and where, and then pass them along to our Sotheby people there," says Kurtz. "Everybody wants their dream place with ocean views, but sometimes, you have to start with something else."
Calgary buyers are looking for value and lifestyle, says MacArthur. "It's about them and what they want to do with the rest of their lives."

1. Amirite

This trendy favorite of commenters on pop culture websites—meant to suggest a glibly tossed "Am I right?"—has about as much chance of making it into the dictionary as fuhgeddaboudit.

2. Craptastic/craptacular
These mash-ups of, respectively, crap and fantastic and crap and spectacular first cropped up in snarky online lambasting of overhyped pop culture phenomena in the 1990s. I chuckled the first couple of times I came across them, but though they are ideal terms for assuming a sarcastic tone, they are best used in moderation and are not, and perhaps will never become, mainstream expressions of derision. Safer alternatives for general publication include absurd, laughable, ludicrous, preposterous, ridiculous and risible.

3. Genius
Out of seemingly nowhere, online correspondents began to use this as a short form of ingenious, as in "That's such a genius move." It has not acquired legitimacy, and in other than jocular usage, you don't have to be a genius to avoid it.

4. Ginormous
This collision of gigantic and enormous, dating from the 1990s, is a vivid term, but it is superfluous, considering that humongous, which also seemed to appear spontaneously in casual usage when it came on the scene in the 1960s, has already acquired a respectability the newer term as yet lacks.

Plenty of words meaning "extremely large" exist: colossal, gargantuan, gigantic, immense, mammoth, massive, monstrous, prodigious, titanic, and vast, for starters. None of them has the neologistic cachet of ginormous, but the letter is for now only suitable in informal writing.

5. A slang word that isn't
The adjective cliche, used in place of cliched, as in "That's so cliche," was originally on this list, until I looked it up and discovered, to my surprise, that it is a legitimate variant. Its sudden recent vogue lured me into thinking it was being misused in an affected manner much like the adjective genius (see above) is. It's correct, but you're welcome to use one of many synonyms, like hackneyed or trite.

Over fifty-three thousand dollars in cash and tutoring prizes have been awarded to high-school students across the U.S through Revolution Prep’s Social Media Contest Winners

Revolution Prep, an innovative educational services company, is announcing the winners of its 2011 Next Test Prep Star social media contest. The contest was opened to high-school sophomores and juniors nationwide and ended on June 1st. The purpose of the contest was to help students by supporting them in their goal to attend college and allow other students to experience the test prep process through their peers.

As part of the contest, students were required to tell Revolution Prep why they deserved twenty five hundred dollars in cash for college and/or free SAT test prep. Daylong Event Kicks Off Partnership’s Makeover of Jordan With Extensive Beautification Projects Involving Hundreds of Volunteers from Revolution Prep, Partnership, the Mayor’s Office & Community Organizations

July 14, 2011 (Los Angeles, CA)— After years of struggling to increase student academic achievement, Jordan High School joined the Partnership for Los Angeles School’s (www.partnershipLA.org) network earlier this month. Under the Partnership’s leadership the school will undergo a series of sweeping changes to transform Jordan into a college-preparatory campus. HarperCollins Publishers New Zealand has entered into an agreement with Weta Workshop, the conceptual design and manufacturing firm responsible for effects and design on films like Avatar, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and The Chronicles of Narnia. The deal will allow for HarperCollins to publish movie tie-in volumes written and designed by Weta’s creative team, based in New Zealand, but with titles sold by all HC's worldwide divisions.

In addition to print books, HarperCollins and Weta Workshop are exploring the development of digital products.

“We have been developing book ideas for many years and now with our relationship and friendship with the team at HarperCollins we can see these books reach an even wider market through their global network,” said Richard Taylor, creative director and co-founder of Weta Workshop.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) permits medications, medical equipment and liquids serving a medical purpose on all flights.
